Sweet, Sweet Summer

In Be Merry, Eat on August 15, 2010 at 9:14 pm

This weekend we huddled up for yet another departure of one of our dear District friends with a day of good old fashioned field games. From clothes swaps, to crab walks, to celery eating contest (ahem, L.), it was a fantastic way to spend a summer Saturday. But best of all, today we all went back to Ted’s Bulletin. Sunday Shakes

In Be Merry, Drink, Eat on June 14, 2010 at 11:13 am

Every once in awhile you have a day that shakes up your little world. Over here at CHC, that day was Saturday when Miss L got in a dust up involving her car and a concrete median. On Sunday, our bandaged warrior and I headed out to celebrate still having all our limbs. It didn’t take long before we found ourselves standing outside of Ted’s Bulletin, a lovely new establishment on Barack’s Row.

(HOT)DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

In Eat on June 1, 2010 at 12:29 am

I’d like to write about Sunday’s Cap Hill extravaganza — HOT DOG TOPPING CONTEST 2010 — but Mal beat me to it. You’re officially invited to read it on her awesome blog The Grand International.

After eating so many hot dogs I prefer to pretend they don’t exist.

Would I like a hot dog? No, no. I would never. I don’t even know what that is…

But if you haven’t had enough dogs in your life, here are a few songs to launch you into summer.

…more after the jump!

Come out, Come out Wherever You Are!

In Eat on April 27, 2010 at 11:35 am

The Food Network will be filming at one of our local diners and dives this weekend, according to The Washington Scene. I’m determined to find the Top Chef challenge when they cook for a million people on a street corner but I guess I wouldn’t mind settling for a sighting of Guy Fieri’s blazing blonde tips.

Some guesses:

Pete’s Diner next to Le Bon Cafe or our personal fave, Jimmy T’s.

Keep an eye out!

A Friday-like Thursday

In Be Merry, Drink, Eat on April 23, 2010 at 10:47 am

Cap Hill enjoyed the company of a distinguished guest Thursday. Katherine (!!!) ventured to our side of the District for Mexican food and good cheer.

The loudest table on the patio.

La Loma has some of the best outdoor seating in D.C. The wait is never long, the service quick and the food good. Despite our best efforts to not fill up on chips and salsa…we failed. While recounting tales of yesteryear and Aladdin quotes, we somehow still managed to clean our plates and polish off two margarita pitchers. Cap Hill & Co. give this local establishment eight thumbs up and two Stanton park statues.

Summer Storm Spring Rolls

In Eat on April 9, 2010 at 11:36 am

Shrimp w/ Pineapple, Mango and Corn Relish

A sudden and dramatic storm swept over Capitol Hill last night just as we were arriving at L’s apartment for a late dinner. The tarp covering the newly renovated Northeast Public Library slapped angrily in the whipping wind as rain washed away the pollen coated streets, finally clearing the air a bit for all you allergy sufferers. I could have sworn a tornado was about to sweep us off to Oz, but fortunately we made it inside safely and got to work on a scrumptious spring feast.

Shake Your Bon Bon or The Other Sorta French Place to Brunch

In Eat on April 5, 2010 at 5:22 pm

It was a beautiful Saturday to brunch and we were determined to do so outside, Cherry Blossom season be damned! As we grumbled around Eastern Market, where lines were out the door, we decided to pull out the “where’s the place we always forget about, but always want to go to?” card and stumbled down to Le Bon Cafe.

Fancy French.

In Be Merry, Eat on April 4, 2010 at 1:03 am

Last weekend I had a burger for breakfast. (Thank you Jimmy T’s — rave review coming soon.)

This weekend I ate crème brûlée.

Oui oui, darling.
