Sweet, Sweet Summer

In Be Merry, Eat on August 15, 2010 at 9:14 pm

This weekend we huddled up for yet another departure of one of our dear District friends with a day of good old fashioned field games. From clothes swaps, to crab walks, to celery eating contest (ahem, L.), it was a fantastic way to spend a summer Saturday. But best of all, today we all went back to Ted’s Bulletin. Genius Next Door

Living on Capitol Hill has major rewards — even at the Apple store.

Two weeks ago uneven pavement threw my car into a concrete barrier. As I’m sure you understand, this was relatively upsetting terrifying.

Heaven? (Photo credit: apple.com)

The largest life-burn, however, was that I had my brand-new MacBook Pro sitting in the front seat. It was thrown at 60 mph. The beautiful glass screen shattered and there was a sizable dent in the back. I was devastated. Over the phone, Apple representatives told me it would cost between $700 and $800 to fix. It was not covered by AppleCare.

I decided my bandaged arm, pathetic demeanor and weepy eyes might help this situation. So I traveled to Pentagon City to try my luck in person.

Take a bite out of this apple…

Sunday Shakes

In Be Merry, Drink, Eat on June 14, 2010 at 11:13 am

Every once in awhile you have a day that shakes up your little world. Over here at CHC, that day was Saturday when Miss L got in a dust up involving her car and a concrete median. On Sunday, our bandaged warrior and I headed out to celebrate still having all our limbs. It didn’t take long before we found ourselves standing outside of Ted’s Bulletin, a lovely new establishment on Barack’s Row.

Milkshakes ahead!

Beat The Heat

In Be Merry on June 7, 2010 at 1:54 pm

Summer has officially descended on the Capitol. I can no longer step out into my backyard without being instantly attacked by skeeters (even doused in bug spray) and even the most prim and proper among us are pit stained and stinky. So when the city heat has got you down here are some refreshing escapes.

I’d like to write about Sunday’s Cap Hill extravaganza — HOT DOG TOPPING CONTEST 2010 — but Mal beat me to it. You’re officially invited to read it on her awesome blog The Grand International.

After eating so many hot dogs I prefer to pretend they don’t exist.

Would I like a hot dog? No, no. I would never. I don’t even know what that is…

But if you haven’t had enough dogs in your life, here are a few songs to launch you into summer.

¡Vive España!

In Misc. on May 26, 2010 at 5:14 pm

Dear Cap Hill,

I’ve been cheating on you. I fell passionately in love with the great country of Spain, specifically Madrid (the cheese! the wine!), Granada (the cobblestone!), and Andalucia (the everything!). Forgive me. Trust that I have returned with an abundance of wonderful ideas for the next big thing.

Hint: Cheese and Wine are involved.

Te amo,

– B

Downtrodden Zumba dancers: take heart. You are fighting the good fight.

Even if O’Neill yells “NERD!” and rides away on her bike. Remember  – she just doesn’t feel the music.

Don’t turn around. Instead, pedal on with your bright, white, spaceboot sneakers towards Joy of Motion Dance Center on H Street. Only there will your sassy dance moves be truly appreciated.

Top Shelf Not Out Of Reach

In Be Merry on May 14, 2010 at 12:11 am

Our sweet little blog has been quiet this week due to a mass exodus from the Hill on Monday. Beckster is livin’ it up Spain-side and Kyle, god bless him, is in Iowa. (More on those adventures later, I’m sure.)

Darren & I bravely held down the fort. I can’t say what he’s been doing these last few days, but I heard he moved furniture. Apparently it was “man’s work.” Whatever.

Cap Hill O’Neill

In Be Merry, Drink on May 5, 2010 at 4:50 pm

We thought it would never happen. D.C.’s most-elusive, most-sought-after, most-lovely-fancy-lady (cough)Claire(cough) visited our neck of the woods Tuesday. My-oh-my…what a treat!

"I'd live here in a heartbeat," Claire said. "Cheers!"
